It’s Time for the Monmouth County Fair!

The annual Monmouth County Fair will offer new but familiar musical acts and attractions and old favorites like the racing pigs Wednesday through Sunday at the East Freehold Showgrounds on Kozloski Road.

The fair is organized by the Monmouth County Park System in cooperation with the Monmouth County 4-H Association. The 4-H holds competitions for art, crafts, canned goods, baked goods, cake decorating, vegetables, flowers and animals. All entries for the 2012 Home and Garden Competition will be on exhibit.

There are many participatory events for children, including cupcake and cake decorating contests Saturday and a pie eating contest Sunday. Children also will enjoy the Roadway Obstacle as they ride Big Wheels around a small course, a Splash Zone, toy car races, a nature zone and mini golf.

The 38th annual fair will host new performers this year, including Amish Outlaws at 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. Wednesday; the popular Jersey Shore cover band Brian Kirk and the Jirks at 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. Thursdays; country music singer Jaida Dryer at 9 p.m. Friday; Slippery When Wet, a Bon Jovi cover band, at 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday; and Latin rthym band 3D Ritmo de Vida at noon and 1:30 p.m Sunday.

New entertainment includes Raptor Project – Birds of Prey, Dock Dogs and E3 Skateboarding Stunt Show. Old favorites returning daily are the pig races, BMX stunt show, petting farm, Bwana Jim’s reptile show and Tommie Turvey Equine Extremist. Also expect fairground staples such as food vendors, games, rides and garden displays.

“It’s always a great time,” said Freeholder Director John Curley said, adding that the fair is a great way to showcase the county’s 4-H program and its agricultural history. He noted many local businesses will have booths there as well. “The fair will draw a big crowd so let’s hope for good weather,” he said.

The fair gates, at 1500 Kozloski Road, will be open 5-11 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $7 per person; children 12 and under are free. Seniors 65 and older are admitted free on Sunday. An $18 wristband for unlimited rides will be offered Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. For a complete schedule of events, visit www.monmouthcounty, or call 732-842-4000.
